Paul Holland - Guiding Early Stage Investment Growth

Paul Holland serves as a general partner at Foundation Capital and has guided the rapid expansion of early-stage tech startups. Focused on actionable go-to-market pathways, Paul Holland takes a hands-on approach to building teams and delivering compelling business plans that secure VC funding. Throughout his career in Silicon Valley, he has shepherded numerous enterprises to exits via IPOs and acquisitions.

A James Madison University (JMU) graduate, Mr. Holland gained early experience in the 1990s by assisting founder-CEOs in building successful companies from the ground up. He drove global growth for Pure Software, whose founders ultimately established Netflix and next joined Kana Communications, spearheading its rapid early-stage expansion. In total, the two companies achieved a market capitalization of $12 billion.

Recruited to Foundation Capital in 2001, Mr. Holland became an integral part of a team that invested more than $5 billion of partner and investor capital in companies such as Chegg, MobileIron, SunRun, and Netflix in their pre-IPO stages. It led to $20 billion in market capitalization and more than $750 billion in market value. Paul Holland and his wife are longtime JMU benefactors and, in 2021, provided the institution with a $5 million gift toward scholarships.
